Molecular diffusion in supercooled liquid water
Abstract: Following our μSR experiment on liquid water (RB1720491) we propose to measure molecular diffusion coefficient (the sum of the diffusion coefficients of muonium and oxygen molecule) in supercooled liquid water. The supercooled state exhibits highly viscous and glassy behaviour and can no longer be explained by the simple Stokes-Einstein equation. The ability of measuring diffusion coefficients in the meta-stable state can make an important contribution to understanding the mysterious properties.
