Deformation behaviour of gamma double prime strengthened nickel-based superalloys studied by in-situ neutron diffraction

Abstract: Inconel 718 alloys are widely used in industry. However, deformation behaviour of the different phases in the alloys during plastic deformation under loading has not been measured in-situ using neutron beams. In this experiment, we will study the deformation behaviour of strengthening phase and matrix in the Ni-based superalloys by doing in-situ neutron diffraction during loading. The outcome of this experiments will reveal elastic properties of strengthening phase, stress during deformation, which will be useful to provide enhanced understanding of the widely used materials and for industry to optimise the process to obtain optimum properties.
