Magnon dispersion in the polar ferrimagnet BaCaFe4O7
Abstract: Polar or non-centrosymmetric ferri(-o)magnets offer a plethora of potential technological devices;the inherent magnetoelectric effect can underpin both pyroelectric or multiferroic functionality. Thiswill enable new functionality in electronic devices providing new benefits to consumers. Foracademic study, modulated magnetic structures, a prerequisite for skyrmion formation, can bestabilized via the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) induced by the polar nature of thestructure. These structures have been predicted to host a new type of magnons emerging from themultiferroic nature, the so called the electromagnon. These experiments are designed to probe the magnetic excitations of a new candidate for these phenomena; BaCaFe4O7.
