Quantitative Benchmarks of state-of-art Neutron Chemical Spectrometers - Part 1: TOSCA

Abstract: We request 4 days on TOSCA to investigate the instrumental performance of the spectrometer, and to create from scratch an ad-hoc database for instrument-model validation. Two types of samples will be considered for measurements on TOSCA: zirconium hydride and polyethylene. Changing systematically sample amounts and thickness, signal-to-background ratio, LOD and LOQ, as well as the impact of multiple scattering (MP) will be addressed. Data will be manipulated and treated by chemometric techniques, starting with Principal Component Analysis (PCA), in order to assess instrumental resolution and accuracy. The data will also be used to perform the validation and preparation of TOSCA virtual model and virtual samples.
