INS study on the effect of pressure on the soft transverse optical phonon mode of the quantum critical paraelectric SrTiO3
Abstract: Recent measurements have indicated that the application of hydrostatic pressure to SrTiO3 can be used to tune the system away from a ferroelectric quantum critical point. This is seen in a dramatic suppression of the dielectric susceptibility of SrTiO3 under a modest applied pressure. The dielectric susceptibility is predominantly associated with a particular low energy phonon mode and we will measure the energy of this mode as a function of applied pressure using inelastic neutron scattering.
