Gamma Dopplerimetry to Determine the Environment of Iodine in Halogen Bonded Monolayers on Graphite
Abstract: The design of two dimensional materials assembled from molecular building blocks is dependent on understanding how molecules interact on surfaces. Whilst structural studies of physisorbed monolayers have shown a wide range of behaviour, understanding the bonding within these layers has proved elusive. In a previous experiment on VESUVIO, we showed that gamma dopplerimetry can be used to observe the iodine environment of a halogen bonded monolayer on graphite. In this proposal we wish to conduct further measurements on this system so these experimental results can be compared to simulations of the system.
