Solvation structure of sodium ions and hexa-fluorophosphate ions in organic carbonate electrolytes for sodium ion batteries.

Abstract: Here we propose to study the local structure of sodium in standard organic carbonate electrolytes for sodium ion batteries. Three different electrolytes are chosen to study; a flexible linear carbonate diethyl carbonate, a more rigid cyclic carbonate propylene carbonate and the commercially most common a mixed cyclic and linear carbonate solution. we hope to understand how different molecular structure will change the local structure around the sodium and how this will effect the probability of forming ion pairs in the solution.
