In situ phase volume fraction and internal strain measurements of TRIP steel under tension subjected to temperature change

Abstract: Transformation Induced-Plasticity (TRIP) phenomenon has been intensively studied to developnew steel products with the optimal combination of formability and strength. However, themechanical behaviors of TRIP steel and the deformation mechanisms of phase transformation arenot clearly understood. Furthermore, the TRIP phenomenon is sensitive to temperature and thestability of the retained austenitic phase inherited from manufacturing processes. Therefore, weare planning to investigate the mechanical behavior, evolution of phase volume fraction, andevolution of internal elastic strain of TRIP steel under tension at room temperature, -100°C and at-200°C using ENGIN_X at ISIS. The experimental results will be valuable to improve and validatethe elasto-viscoplastic polycrystal model addressing phase transformations.
