Characterisation of adsorbed species on real catalysts by total scattering neutron diffraction
Abstract: Total scattering neutron diffraction will be used to measure the local structure of adsorbate layers on catalytically and industrially relevant metals, namely formate on copper and benzene on nickel. Modelling of these systems is tractable and will be carried out for comparison with the data collected. The aim is to obtain a detailed description of the local structure of the adsorbate. This will act both as a test of the computational models and provide insight into catalytic reaction mechanisms.
